Overview

  • Managing Consultant, US Construction London-Based
  • US Market £45,000 + 20 30% commission
  • Zero threshold $37,000 average placement fees.

An established US business.

And the opportunity to build its next team from London.

What if you could take the Construction recruitment skills you've already developed and apply them to a market where the economics are simply bigger?

Good Consultants within business are capable of billing around $350K annually!

Why?

Because:

Typical salaries are $100k $160k+

Average placement fees of c $35,000

Shorter candidate notice periods than the UK

More importantly, you won't be trying to figure out the US market from scratch.

You'll join an established and profitable US recruitment operation with five years of trading history, existing clients, live vacancies, mapped markets and a team already demonstrating what's possible.

Your opportunity is to take that platform, establish your own US territory, potentially a state such as Florida, and help build the company's next US Construction team from London.

02

The Opportunity

You'll recruit permanent professionals into General Contractors and specialist Construction Contractors across the US.

Typical appointments include:

Project Managers

Estimators

Commercial Managers

Superintendents

with salaries commonly ranging from $100,000 $160,000 and reaching approximately $250,000 at the senior end.

At an average client fee of around 30% , the economics are significantly different from many comparable UK Construction desks.

The company's average placement fee is approx $35,000 - not a theoretical calculation based on a maximum salary, but what its placements actually average.

And the US market can move quickly.

Shorter notice periods mean candidates can often transition considerably faster than their UK counterparts.

ESTABLISHED, BUT YOU'LL STILL NEED TO BUILD

This is a warm opportunity, not a passive one.

An established US Director has already developed client relationships and live vacancies that can be introduced and handed across as you establish yourself.

You'll have access to client introductions, candidate data, mapped markets, live requirements, existing relationships and specialist US sourcing technology from day one.

You'll also be trained and supported directly by people already successfully recruiting in the market.

But nobody is pretending the jobs will simply roll in forever without effort.

You'll need to establish yourself as the new point of contact, deepen those relationships and bring your own business-development discipline to expanding them.

Over time, the intention is for you to develop clear geographical ownership, potentially taking responsibility for a state such as Florida, and build further client relationships within it.

AND THEN BUILD A TEAM AROUND IT

You'll initially combine personal billing with responsibility for an existing London-based US recruiter.

From there, the mandate is considerably bigger.

The business believes its London-based US operation could grow to approximately ten people over the next two years .

This person has the opportunity to be at the centre of building it.

So this isn't simply a move from UK recruitment into a higher-fee market.

It's a route from Principal-level recruiter to hands-on manager, team builder and ultimately senior leader within an international recruitment business.

03

The Firm

The wider business has recruited within the professional Built Environment for approximately 15 years , with around 20 specialists in its London operation .

The group comprises five complementary boutique recruitment businesses , each serving specialist areas of the sector.

Its US operation is already established in its own right.

The company has been operating there for approximately five years , with seven recruiters now based in New York and an additional US-focused recruiter working from London.

And there is tangible evidence that the model works.

Last year, four recruiters generated almost $1.5 million .

More recently, the US business delivered a record quarter of almost $600,000 across six recruiters .

You'll therefore be joining a proven operation rather than participating in an experiment.

Support comes from both sides of the Atlantic.

An experienced Director based in the US, who previously worked within the London operation, will provide hands-on market leadership, knowledge transfer and client introductions.

In London, you'll also work closely with the CEO who originally founded the business , giving you senior-level support as the London US team develops.

You'll have access to sourcing tools and technology specifically developed for the American market, alongside training and knowledge sharing from the existing US team.

04

Who This Suits

An established permanent recruiter from Construction or a closely related Built Environment market with 3 years of experience and who wants to move into a substantially higher-value recruitment environment.

A strong Principal Consultant with a minimum billing profile of £175K and ready to make the move into management would be particularly well suited.

You understand proper permanent recruitment: detailed vacancy qualification, candidate control, relationship development, systematic desk management and proactive business development.

You want to remain a hands-on biller while beginning to develop and lead others.

You don't necessarily need to arrive knowing everything about US recruitment.

The infrastructure, market knowledge, tools and people to teach you are already there.

What matters more is that you're commercially ambitious enough to take what you already know and adapt it to a different market.

Perhaps you've reached the point where increasing your UK billings requires doing considerably more work for relatively incremental returns.

Perhaps management opportunities are limited where you are.

Or maybe you simply look at an average $37k placement fee and recognise what your existing skills could produce when applied to different economics.

This is particularly suited to someone who doesn't just want to recruit in America.

They want to help build the London team that does it.

05

The Rewards

£45,000 basic salary

Commission starts at 20% and rises to 30% , with zero threshold .

That means commission is earned against qualifying fee income from the outset rather than only after clearing a substantial threshold.

A three-month guarantee can be agreed based on provable commission earnings across your previous six months, providing protection while you transition into the US market.

There are also management overrides and bonuses linked to the performance of the team you develop, alongside the wider company benefits and monthly, quarterly and annual incentives.

The working pattern is four days in the office , working predominantly East Coast hours of approximately 10am 7pm , with some flexibility and an early finish on Fridays.

And the longer-term reward goes beyond personal commission.

As the London-based US team grows, there is a route into Associate Director , participation in the wider senior leadership team and increasingly close involvement with the CEO in developing the operation.

At Associate Director level, there is also the opportunity to earn equity in the business .

So the proposition is bigger than moving from a UK desk to a US one.

A profitable five-year US operation.

Live clients and vacancies from day one.

$37k average realised placement fees.

A proven $350k+ consultant billing opportunity.

US leadership teaching you the market.

A territory to develop.

A team to build from London.

And a route into senior leadership and equity as it grows.

You already know how to recruit.

This is about seeing what those skills can produce in a bigger market.
