Overview
- £38,000 £40,000 Basic + Commission to 40%
- $30,000 average fees change the economics of a permanent recruitment desk. Particularly when you're operating in a market where specialist talent is scarce, projects are multiplying and clients cannot simply postpone hiring because the people they need are difficult to find.
This is an opportunity to specialise in the US Data Centre and Mission Critical market , joining a recruitment business that has developed significant expertise and reach within this rapidly expanding area of infrastructure. You'll work with organisations responsible for developing, designing, building, commissioning and operating some of the most technically demanding facilities in the US.
The market is established. The recruitment opportunity is significant. And for an experienced permanent recruiter, there is plenty of room to carve out a highly valuable specialism of your own.
02
The Opportunity
This is fundamentally a high-value permanent recruitment desk . Average fees sit at around $30,000 , reflecting the salaries, technical complexity and scarcity of many of the professionals operating within the sector. That creates very different desk economics from a market where significant billing numbers require constant high-volume placement activity.
Two placements in a strong month here can represent around $60,000 in fees . And the potential market is enormous.
Data Centres require specialist professionals throughout their development and operational lifecycle, creating multiple recruitment markets within what initially appears to be one sector. You could choose to specialise around:
- Development & Planning
- Site acquisition, planning and associated Property professionals.
- Design & Commercial
- Design professionals, Surveyors, Estimators, Quantity Surveyors and Cost specialists.
- Construction & Project Delivery
- Project Managers, Site Managers, Superintendents, Project Directors and other delivery professionals.
- MEP & Critical Infrastructure
- Power, cooling, HVAC, electrical, mechanical and specialist technical appointments.
- Commissioning & Controls
- Commissioning, BMS, controls and associated Mission Critical disciplines.
- Operations & Maintenance
- The specialist engineering professionals responsible for keeping completed facilities operational.
Nobody expects one recruiter to cover everything. The attraction is the ability to develop real depth in the part of the market that best matches your experience and relationships . You might become known for Commissioning appointments. Perhaps your background naturally lends itself to Construction leadership. You may understand MEP and Power particularly well. Or you might follow a candidate community across several stages of a project.
The geography is equally fluid. This is a US-wide remit, allowing you to follow major projects and clients as investment moves between different states and Data Centre hubs. There is no need to manufacture a niche simply because somebody drew lines on an internal territory map.
03
The Firm
The business behind the opportunity has made a deliberate decision to specialise deeply rather than recruit broadly . Its focus is Data Centres and Mission Critical infrastructure, and that has enabled it to build a strong reputation and profile within an increasingly important global market.
It now operates internationally across the UK, United States and Middle East , recruiting permanent and contract specialists for organisations involved throughout the Data Centre ecosystem.
For you, that means you're not trying to introduce an unknown recruitment brand to the US market. There are established clients and candidate relationships to develop, existing commercial agreements, significant accumulated market knowledge and colleagues already recruiting successfully in the US.
The team works collaboratively. Information about new projects, organisations hiring, candidate movement and changing demand is shared, creating opportunities that wouldn't necessarily appear on your own desk in isolation. But you retain ownership of your own market and performance.
The company has also invested heavily in how it presents itself externally. Its specialist positioning and strong digital presence mean its brand reflects the calibre of market it recruits into, useful when you're approaching sophisticated clients or senior candidates who haven't dealt with you personally before.
This is a business that wants recruiters to become recognised specialists , not simply vacancy processors.
04
Who This Suits
You don't need an identical CV to be credible for this role. The strongest direct fit would obviously be an experienced US Data Centre or Mission Critical permanent recruiter . But that's not the only route in.
You might currently recruit permanent professionals within:
- Construction
- MEP/HVAC
- Power Engineering
- Building Services
- Critical Infrastructure
and want to take that expertise into the US Data Centre market.
Alternatively, you may already recruit Data Centres outside the US and want access to a considerably larger fee environment.
What matters is that you understand specialist permanent recruitment . You know how to map a market rather than simply search a database. You can identify people who aren't actively applying for jobs. You understand how to build credibility with technically knowledgeable candidates.
And commercially, you can turn a successful placement into a long-term client relationship rather than starting from zero again next month.
There will be existing relationships, leads and market intelligence around you. You should exploit all of them. But you'll also be expected to add something of your own, developing new clients, expanding existing relationships and steadily building a reputation within your chosen part of the market.
Depending on your existing track record, you could join at Senior or Principal Consultant level . The immediate expectation is personal performance rather than management. Build a significant desk first and if your ambition later moves towards leadership, the continued growth of the business creates plenty of opportunity to develop in that direction.
05
The Rewards
The package includes:
- £38,000 £40,000 basic salary
- Commission rising to 40%
- Zero-threshold commission available for proven productive recruiters
- Approximately three months' earnings protection available against demonstrable current performance
- Quarterly performance rewards
- Annual high-achiever trips
- Private healthcare
- Gym membership
- Opportunities to travel to the US
- Long-term progression into leadership for those who want it
- Potential future opportunity to relocate to the United States
The business can take account of how closely your current experience aligns with the market when considering the overall package and initial earnings protection.
And there is a realistic commercial benchmark here. At an average fee of approximately $30,000 , a recruiter doesn't need extraordinary placement volume to build serious annual revenue. For someone who establishes themselves properly, $500,000 annual billings is a credible desk to build towards within the first 12 24 months.
The bigger question is therefore probably not whether there's enough market. It's whether you'd rather continue competing in the market you already know... or become a genuine specialist in one that's getting considerably bigger.
