Overview

£35,000 £40,000 Basic + 20% Zero-Threshold Commission

If you recruit M&E professionals, there is a considerable difference between working for a Construction recruiter that happens to cover Building Services and joining a business already embedded in the M&E contractor market.

This is the latter.

You'll join a specialist Construction and M&E recruitment business with an excellent reputation across the London Building Services market, established relationships with major and specialist M&E contractors and around 130 contractors currently working across its blue-collar operation .

Its permanent business is already established too.

There are live vacancies, active and historic clients, an extensive candidate network and another successful Principal Consultant already recruiting professional M&E appointments.

The opportunity now is to add another experienced M&E recruiter and turn considerably more of that existing market access into permanent fees.

This isn't a cold desk.

Nor is it a maintenance exercise.

It's a proven £200k market with the ingredients to become considerably bigger.

02

The Opportunity

You'll recruit permanent professional, commercial and management appointments across M&E and Building Services , predominantly throughout London and the South East.

Your market will span two closely connected client groups.

Within M&E and Building Services Contractors , you'll recruit appointments such as:

  • Project Engineers
  • Project Managers
  • Project Directors
  • Estimators
  • Quantity Surveyors

Alongside this, you'll recruit the M&E professionals employed directly by Main Contractors to manage and coordinate their Building Services packages, including:

  • M&E Managers
  • M&E Coordinators
  • and related technical appointments.

The desk follows clients across different project sectors rather than restricting you to one narrow vertical, giving you access to opportunities wherever established M&E contractors are delivering work.

And you're arriving with plenty to go at.

There are live vacancies, active clients, historic relationships and an established specialist candidate database from day one.

The permanent desk has previously generated around £200,000 annually , providing clear evidence that the market exists.

But perhaps the more interesting opportunity comes from the rest of the business.

Kedro has built an exceptionally strong presence in blue-collar M&E , with approximately 130 contractors currently working.

Those contractors sit inside the same organisations you're trying to develop at professional level.

The Director and wider team are talking every day to M&E contractors about projects, hiring requirements and workforce demand.

A contractor relationship can open the door to a permanent management requirement.

A Project Manager can introduce you to a trades contact.

A blue-collar client can become a white-collar client.

A senior engineer can become a candidate, referral source or future hiring manager.

The two sides of the market continually create opportunities for each other.

You'll also work alongside an established Principal Consultant already recruiting permanent M&E professionals, giving you someone with genuine market knowledge to collaborate with rather than being left to establish the entire proposition alone.

There is still business development to do.

You're joining as an experienced recruiter, not an account manager.

You'll be expected to expand existing relationships, reactivate historic clients and create new business of your own.

But there is a considerable difference between doing BD from an empty CRM and doing it from inside a business already supplying 130 people into the market you're calling .

03

The Firm

This is a small, entrepreneurial Construction and M&E recruitment business established for more than five years.

Its owner has more than 12 years' specialist M&E recruitment experience , and the company has developed an excellent reputation within the blue-collar Building Services market.

The team is deliberately small, currently under 10 recruiters, but its market footprint is significantly larger than the headcount might suggest.

With around 130 contractors working, established permanent recruitment capability and long-standing relationships with major Building Services contractors alongside strong specialist and regional M&E businesses, this is a company that already has meaningful visibility within its niche.

The environment reflects its size.

It's entrepreneurial, lively and commercial .

Client relationships matter enormously, and recruiters are encouraged to get out from behind their desks, visit clients, understand projects and build relationships properly.

You're close to the people making decisions.

The Director who developed many of the company's blue-collar M&E relationships remains actively involved and can make introductions into organisations the business already supplies.

There aren't multiple layers of management between identifying an opportunity and doing something about it.

And because the permanent operation is still relatively small, there is considerable scope for someone successful to influence how it develops.

04

Who This Suits

This role does require M&E / Building Services recruitment experience .

You need to understand the contractor market and be able to speak credibly to the people operating within it.

You may currently recruit Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial professionals or other white-collar Building Services appointments.

Or perhaps your existing desk crosses different levels of the M&E market and you want to concentrate more heavily on professional permanent recruitment.

You could join at Consultant or Senior Consultant level , depending on your experience and existing performance.

But you'll probably find the opportunity particularly interesting if you're currently sitting in one of two environments.

Perhaps you work for a broader Construction recruiter where M&E is simply another discipline.

You're capable in the market, but the company around you doesn't have the depth of contractor relationships, candidate reach or technical understanding that would make your job easier.

Or perhaps you're at the opposite end of the spectrum.

You're inside a large Building Services recruitment business where the market has already been divided between numerous recruiters and you're competing internally for the same clients, candidates and opportunities.

Here, you get something in between.

A genuine M&E specialist platform without an overcrowded permanent team.

You'll need to be commercial and proactive.

But you'll also be surrounded by people who understand your market, clients who already know the company and a constant flow of intelligence from both blue and white-collar recruitment.

And if you can turn that into results, there is room to build something around you.

05

The Rewards

The package includes:

  • £35,000 £40,000 basic salary
  • 20% commission with zero threshold
  • First-quarter guaranteed commission for proven existing billers
  • Performance-related opportunity to earn up to 10 additional days' holiday each year
  • Overseas incentives
  • Clear performance-led promotion criteria
  • London City office
  • Four days office / one day working from home
  • Opportunity to develop a permanent team as your market grows

Progression here is deliberately transparent.

Annual billings of approximately £225,000 provide the benchmark for progression to Principal Consultant , with further career routes available towards Managing Consultant or Executive Consultant depending on whether your ambitions move towards leadership or senior personal production.

And the market has already shown what it can produce.

With typical salaries around £60,000 , average fees around 16% , an established client base and considerable crossover from the wider M&E operation, a strong recruiter should be capable of developing this towards a £250,000 annual desk .

You don't need to persuade the company that M&E is a market worth investing in.

You don't need to explain Building Services to the people sitting around you.

And you don't need to start by convincing contractors they've never heard of your recruitment company.

The M&E reputation is already there.

The opportunity is to take that reputation further up the organisational chart, and build a significant permanent desk on top of it.
